The GHWN Youth Hub have launched a new report that reviews the existing evidence and challenges facing youth and early career professionals in the health workforce. The report explores the realities of decent work in the health and social care sector from the perspectives of youth, and sets an extensive advocacy, policy and research agenda that is being taken forward by the GHWN Youth Hub. The report’s key findings highlight a range of critical areas that impact on youth, including: remuneration, earnings and student debt; safe working environments; equal opportunity and access to employment; burnout; and increased exposure gender-based violence and discrimination, which are issues experienced more frequently by youth, students and young professionals. The paper sets out policy recommendations for ensuring decent work, a positive work environment that is free of violence and discrimination, equity in earnings, and a research agenda for informing gender transformative policy and positive workplace practices for the intersection of youth and the health and social care workforce. The paper was launched on the margins of the World Health Organization Executive Board meeting, on 3rd February 2020.
