100 Days of the Polio Outbreak Response in Papua New Guinea

To mark the 100 days since the Government of Papua New Guinea launched the Emergency Response to the Polio Outbreak, the National Department of Health, with support from WHO, UNICEF and other partners released a report on the key accomplishments and highlights from of the response operations. 

This report includes: 

    • Profile of Gafo: the reported first polio case in Papua New Guinea in 18 years
    • Summary of the First 100 days, including a Chronology of the key events 
    • Emergency Operations Centers at the National and Provincial levels 
    • Polio Vaccination Coverage for Rounds 1 and 2 (July-September 2018) 
    • Map on the Confirmed Polio Cases in Papua New Guinea (as of 30 September) 
    • Highlights on the key areas of the response operations: surveillance, laboratory, risk communication and social mobilization, vaccines and logistics, human resources, etc) 
    • Cross Border Agreement with Indonesia

The 100 Days Report is dedicated to the thousands of frontline polio workers who braved challenges and worked long hours to ensure that children in Papua New Guinea are protected from polio.
