With the theme “Improve Corporate and Clinical Governance to achive Universal Health Coverage”, The conference aims to address critical areas of corporate and clinical governance that are essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and focuses on strategies to strengthen the country’s health infrastructure and improve health outcomes essential to achieving UHC.

Universal Health Coverage means individuals and communities receive the high-quality health services they need without suffering financial hardship. Achieving UHC requires a robust health system that is accessible, equitable, and sustainable. This includes well-functioning health facilities, a competent health workforce, reliable health information systems, and access to essential medicines and technologies.

WHO Officer in charge, Dr Ananda Amarasinghe said “ We are proud to announce that the recently launched WHO PNG Country Cooperation Strategy for 2024-2028 is aligned to the PNG National Health Plan and supports Papua New Guineas Vision 2050 by prioritizing Resilient systems for health, Healthier populations and Non-Communicable Diseases, Integrated health services delivery, and Health security.

The National Health Conference is a pivotal platform for discussing and formulating policies that can drive substantial improvements in the health sector. It provides an opportunity for health professionals to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the healthcare system in Papua New Guinea. The conference also serves as a venue for networking and collaboration, fostering partnerships that can lead to sustainable health initiatives.

Achieving Universal Health Coverage is a complex challenge that cannot be tackled by a single entity, and requires the collaboration of governments, development partners, private sector, civil society, and communities. Partnerships are crucial, and WHO is committed and proud to be a part of the PNG health team dedicated to improving health for all.

Together, we can make significant strides towards a healthier future for the people of Papua New Guinea.
