Global health sector strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs for 2016-2021

The work of the WHO Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Programmes (WHO/HHS) is guided by 3 global health sector strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections for 2016-2021. The strategies share a common structure based on a people-centred approach and a universal health coverage framework that follows 5 common  strategic directions:

  1. information for focused action
  2. interventions for impact
  3. delivering for equity
  4. financing for sustainability
  5. innovation for acceleration.

Monitoring progress

Based on data received from countries, WHO is accountable for reporting back to the World Health Assembly on country progress in implementing the global health sector strategies.

WHO/HSS has published a series of reports to assess the progress made in implementing the strategies, and to identify critical gaps and actions needed to reach the targets.
