Role of the IHR in the H1N1 Outbreak and Response
In January 2010, at its 126th session, WHO’s Executive Board welcomed the Director-General’s proposal to convene an IHR Review Committee to review the experience gained in the global response to the influenza A (H1N1) 2009 pandemic in order to inform the review of the functioning of the Regulations; to help assess and, where appropriate, to modify the ongoing response and to strengthen preparedness for future pandemics. Through resolution WHA64.1, World Health Assembly commended the successful conclusion of the work of the Committee and the submission of its final report. It further urged WHO Member States to support the implementation of the 15 recommendations contained in the report and requested the Director-General to provide them with technical support in this context.
