The World Health Organization Assessment Instrument for Mental Health Systems (WHO-AIMS)
The World Health Organization Assessment Instrument for Mental Health Systems (WHO-AIMS) is a WHO tool for collecting essential information on the mental health system of a country or region. The goal of collecting this information has been to improve mental health systems and to provide a baseline for monitoring the change. WHO-AIMS was primarily intended for assessing mental health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
The WHO-AIMS project was a WHO project one to two decades ago. While the instrument is not necessarily outdated, WHO no longer actively engages in WHO-AIMS data collection, focusing instead on the Mental Health Atlas project. The WHO-AIMS country reports and instrument are reflected here for historical reasons and to enable countries to make comparisons over time.
Note that great care was taken to ensure the reliability of the data presented in the WHO-AIMS country reports. Data for WHO-AIMS were collected by a team led by a focal point within the country and were approved by the Ministry of Health. However, since WHO was not directly responsible for the data collection, WHO did not independently verify the accuracy of any of the data presented in these reports.
