Khishigdavaa, Mongolia

People of the Western Pacific

In the past, I weighed 85 kg and was overweight. I had very high blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat and high blood sugar levels. I had very poor nutrition and bad habits. At that time, I was unable to sleep properly. I would often get up to urinate, and end up taking food from the refrigerator in the middle of the night. During the day, I always drank soda and ate processed food, and at night I prepared sausages or sandwiches, and drank soda from the refrigerator. I was constantly short of breath, hungry and thirsty.

My name is Khishigdavaa Myagmar. I am 39 years old and I live in Darkhan Sum. These days, I run a healthy lifestyle club. The main thing that influenced me to change my lifestyle was my family. I realized that if I died, there would be no one who could love my children and my wife more than I do. My family is my life and my greatest happiness. I know that if I make a mistake, my children will make a mistake too. As parents, we need to influence our children with actions, not words.

After giving up alcohol and smoking, my body became lighter. I began to sleep peacefully at night, wakeup early in the morning and began to feel more energetic. Since beginning my health journey, I have lost 28 kg. As the Mongolian proverb says, people do not grow old and die but become stiff and die. Today, I have overcome my self-doubt. My health makes me feel inspired and eager for life. It is my wish to share this inspiration with as many people as possible.

In my community, many people ask me how I lost weight and how I got rid of the illness and pain I used to experience. In response, I’ve realized that the best way to influence people to change is through leading by example. I'm young, so I want to travel the world and continue to live an active life. I want others to understand that there is so much to pursue if they focus on their health through diet and exercise.

"Today, I have overcome my self-doubt. My health makes me feel inspired and eager for life."

With many thanks to Khishigdavaa for sharing her story.
