Global focus event: Connecting insights from the evidence-support ecosystem to make progress towards WHO’s Triple Billion Targets

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has been a game changer in how those supporting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) think about using evidence to strengthen health systems. New formats for rapidly prepared evidence products (e.g. regularly updated ‘living’ rapid syntheses and living rapid evidence profiles) were developed around the world to meet a significant increase in demand for such products by decision-makers who needed to stay on top of a rapidly evolving evidence base. Furthermore, many processes were drawn upon to engage the full range of stakeholders in the evidence-support ecosystem, with the aim of leveraging all of the forms in which evidence is typically encountered in decision-making (i.e., data analytics, modelling, evaluation, behavioural/ implementation research, evidence supports, technology assessment/cost-effectiveness analysis, guidelines). 

Ensuring efforts to support EIDM are inclusive of all relevant stakeholders producing decision-relevant evidence (and their evidence outputs) as part of the evidence-support ecosystem is increasingly viewed as one of the most important aspects of supporting decision-makers with access to the best-available, context-relevant, research evidence in formats that they can use. As EVIPNet teams continue to support EIDM in ways that will contribute to the achievement of WHO’s Triple Billion Targets, linking up stakeholders from the evidence-support ecosystem in order to leverage insights from all forms in which evidence is typically encountered is key.

Objective: This global focus event aims to gather insights as a way to inform the development of a practical set of tools for use among those supporting EIDM. In particular, it will build on insights from previous meetings convened by EVIPNet in London and Beirut, a new WHO EIDM Guidance as well as lessons learned from COVID-END and the Global Commission on Evidence to Address Societal Challenges to help individuals and teams supporting EIDM to work with outputs from the entire evidence-support ecosystem. 

Session participants: This virtual session will invite 20-40 panelists who are involved in efforts to support EIDM from across all WHO regions (as well as individuals working at the international level), to actively participate in deliberations in each session. It will also allow individuals to join as observers and engage in the discussion by posting questions to the panelists while interacting with other participants through live chat.
