Databases on cross-cutting information

Global estimates databases

The Observatory uses other types of data that are not tracking R&D activities per se, but are relevant for the benchmarking of R&D activities against important targets or macroeconomic indicators. The sources and type of these data are listed here.

  • WHO: Global Health Estimates

The WHO Global Health Estimates give users a comprehensive and comparable assessment of mortality and loss of health due to diseases and injuries for all regions of the world. The site provides links to statistics (including statistics on life expectancy, child mortality, adult mortality, causes of death, disability adjusted life years (DALYs) and global burden of disease).

  • WHO: Global Health Expenditure Database

The WHO Global Health Expenditure Database provides information on national health expenditures in a way that allows data comparison and analysis. It is used by the Observatory for data on gross domestic product (GDP) and population estimates, and currency conversion rates.

  • World Bank: World Development Indicators

Produced annually by the World Bank, the World Development Indicators are a collection of indicators of development compiled from officially-recognized international sources. The database includes national, regional and global estimates.
