Collaborating with civil society to Advance Action on Climate Change

Overview

The World Health Organization has a strong history of collaboration with a broad range of civil society groups working on climate change and health. Since 2011, when civil society groups working in the climate change space came together to establish the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA), annual Global Climate and Health Summits have been organized, ensuring ongoing dialogue and mutual reinforcement of global efforts to address the health impacts and -opportunities of climate change.

The WHO Civil Society Working Group to Advance Action on Climate Change and Health was established in November 2017 under the request of WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The working group brings together WHO representatives with leading health and climate NGOs. Working group members tackle climate change through health care systems reform, research, peer education, advocacy, emergency response, and policy development. Members work individually and collaboratively to increase engagement of the health sector in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The current members of the working group can be seen here.
