Climate Change and Health
WHO has been working on climate change and health for over 25 years - advocating, collecting evidence and providing comprehensive support to countries in dealing with health effects of climate change.

Global Conferences on Health and Climate Change

The WHO Global Conferences on Health and Climate Change are organized every two years at the margin of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP).

The conferences support stronger engagement by the global health community, to ensure that public health concerns are reflected in international climate and development discussions, and national adaptation and mitigation policies.

The Global Conferences on Health and Climate Change bring together hundreds of participants from across all WHO regions, including government ministers, heads and senior staff from UN agencies and other intergovernmental organizations, as well as experts, practitioners and civil society representatives from the fields of health, climate change and sustainable development.

The key focus of the conferences is to assess the health impacts of climate change, promote potential health benefits of climate change mitigation actions, and foster the connection between air pollution, climate change and other environmental health determinants, such as biodiversity loss. The conference programme also highlights the critical importance of strengthening health system resilience to climate risks and greening health care facilities.
