Noncommunicable Disease Surveillance, Monitoring and Reporting
The main objective of the Surveillance, Monitoring and Reporting unit is to support the collection, analysis, and dissemination of country-level risk factor information to inform and improve public health policy.

Surveillance systems and tools

To support countries with the routine collection of NCD risk factor data among both adults and youth, WHO has developed a number of standardized tools. These include population-based surveys and setting-based surveillance systems which the pages in this section cover in more detail. Additionally, this section provides more information on a variety of topic-specific tools for the collection and analysis of data related to a range of NCD-related areas including tobacco, physical activity and cervical cancer.

Capacity building

For all its NCD surveillance systems, WHO provides ongoing technical support to countries throughout the surveillance cycle, from inception through implementation to reporting and utilization of data, with the underlying goal of building or enhancing country capacity to routinely collect high-quality data. As illustrated in the diagram at right, WHO offers training workshops at various points along the surveillance cycle which are underpinned by individualized, continuous technical support provided directly to countries.

Please contact us to request support if you are planning any of these activities.
