Global Collaboration on Public Health Intelligence
Friday, 10 December 2022
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, a myriad of new initiatives seeking to contribute to preventing the next pandemic formed all over the world. On the fifth and final day of the conference, we explore how three major new global initiatives - together with the recently inaugurated WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence - can collaborate and engage with local, national, regional, and global stakeholders, to strengthen global pandemic and epidemic intelligence. Two public health experts from organizations for regional disease surveillance join the discussion to speak to the need for strengthening surveillance capacities in their communities. The panel discussion Towards a new collaborative environment for pandemic intelligence is moderated by Chikwe Ihekweazu, Assistant Director-General for the Division of Surveillance and Pandemic Intelligence at the World Health Organization (WHO) and leader of the new WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence.
Following the panel, the conference hosts Philip AbdelMalik and Yasmin Rabiyan from the EIOS Core Team at WHO, reveal the winners of the 2021 GTM championship before spoken word artist Muneera Pilgrim concludes the 2021 EIOS GTM with her second poetry. The community poem titled “A Better for All" was crafted with input from the GTM audience on Day 1, representing authentic voices from the global community behind the EIOS initiative, highlighting their personal and professional experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
