WHO R&D Blueprint

Target Product Profiles (TPPs)

To inform product development for vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics, WHO produces a number of target product profiles (TPPs), together with preferred product characteristics (PPCs).

WHO TPPs define a set of product attributes and contain both minimally acceptable and preferred criteria in response to emergency or epidemic scenarios. They are developed when there is a commitment to accelerated product development and rapid direction is needed.

TPPs have already been developed for COVID-19, Ebola, MERS-CoV, Zika, Nipah and Lassa fever. Additional TPPs may be developed as resources allow, and as the need evolves.
